My project is related to the expressions (especially fear) of women’s bodies in spaces. I have made a meticulous observation of women around me and found fear in them more or less, as well as their confrontation with the entire society, so I try hard to “perform” such fear.

This collection consists of 24 photos, and each of them was taken at night in the dim light, indoor or outdoor. Women in these photos are often faced with dangers, such as car accident. Their bodies behave by instinct under an approaching collision, presenting the relationship between body and space. This can be used to imply the dilemma met by them since childhood due to some political factors, such as the inequality in rights, and the disagreement in gender role.

In an extreme case, they have been spoiled and tempted since childhood in such a way that they ultimately and that they have lost the power to night against the darkness in the real world.

There are also some close-ups of eyes among these photos. I deliberately took them in a fuzzy manner to express implicit melancholy. This collection is themed as “warm night”: “warm” is used to describe the light, symbolizing anticipation and irony.

In the latter part of the collection, these women begin to night. In Photo 11, a hand stretches out of a window. The arm is real but the palm (the part outside the window) is made of wood. This signines the result of their division and struggle. They begin to recreate themselves after they grow up. Their feet are rooted in a soil-free flowerpot, embracing each other and growing up.

At the ending part of the collection, a loop is presented, and the scene at the beginning occurs again. She is nearly crashed by a car in front of her, someone lying down on the street corner and someone running quickly. My project aims to present the relationship between body and space by means of performance so as to show women’s struggle in modern society.

Sunflowers as a symbol of the nightmare.
